Garden Lighting - An Overview
Garden lighting can transform your garden into a new and exciting space, creating a different, more dramatic atmosphere at night than it has during the day. Task Lighting
Task lighting illuminates the areas where specific activities occur, perhaps near the external doors to your property, or above the area where you park the car, near steps or above the BBQ area. Areas that are used after dark should be lit for security, safety and cosmetic reasons. Quality, stylish lights placed by front and back doors make it more welcoming for visitors and enable you to see callers more clearly. Place wall lights at a similar level to the upper third of the external door. Decking/Patio/Driveway Lighting
When lighting a decking or patio area pay particular attention to where people tend to sit and try to avoid glare. The light should be positioned so that you are not looking directly at the source, ideally between eye level and the area you wish to light. Recessed ground lights and drive-over lights ensures safe access for pedestrians and vehicles. Consider a strong beam light under the roof of your home to illuminate the whole area. Ensure that steps are lit to ensure foot traffic safety in the dark, especially if you have children. Accent Lighting
Accent lighting can be used with fantastic effect to highlight special outdoor features. Lighting up specific areas of your garden that you are proud of draws your eye away from those that you aren't - washing lines, compost heaps and bins for example. A tree is simple to light up - using an uplighter placed at the base will instantly add drama and will make a wonderful focal point. General, ambient outdoor lighting provides overall illumination for the garden. It creates the feeling of bringing your garden into the home. Lanterns, wall lights or positioning small posts behind trees or shrubs all work really well. Security LightingExternal lighting that has been correctly positioned and fitted outside your home can be an excellent deterrent to burglars. There are three types available:- Timer Operated Lighting, Dusk 'Til Dawn Lighting and Movement Sensor Operated Lighting. Installation & MaintenanceOutdoorlightingonline.co.uk always recommends using a qualified electrician to install outdoor lighting. Keep your outdoor lights looking their best and in full working order by cleaning them periodically. Check the fixture mounts to ensure they are secure. Ensure you know the depth and location of the wiring so as not to cause damage whilst gardening. Energy Efficient Garden Lighting
Be kind to the enviroment and to your pocket by choosing energy efficient garden lighting. Running costs could be up to 80% less than conventional lamps. |
